Gordon’s is still as good as gold - Arbroath venue retains AA five star rating

According to the AA’s rating system, Gordon’s was recognised for ‘excellent levels of quality throughout and outstanding levels of hospitality and service’ and ‘luxurious accommodation’.

There was cause for a double celebration as Gordon’s also received the AA breakfast award for its emphasis on freshly prepared local ingredients and presentation quality.

The popular Arbroath venue features five bedrooms as well as a 24-cover dining room and an outdoor garden. Interior-designed boutique luxurious bedrooms include two suites with roll-top baths. All bedrooms are en-suite with high-quality beds and furnishings

Proprietor and head chef, Garry Watson told ACP what it meant to him to be recognised for his sterling efforts at Gordon’s.

Garry said: “I am delighted that all our hard work has been recognised. We’re a very small team and we put our heart and souls into the running of the restaurant and the accommodation.

“We are delighted with the five gold stars for our accommodation that allows customers to relax overnight, enjoy some beautiful wines with dinner and wake up to a gourmet breakfast.”

Gordon’s was founded in 1986 by Garry’s parents Gordon and Maria Watson and Garry now runs the entire operation supported by his mum, who runs a slick yet warm and friendly front of house operation. Maria was also thrilled with the news that Gordon’s has retained its AA Gold star rating.

She told ACP: “The AA 5-star ratings is the gold standard and it’s such a wonderful achievement for us to receive it.

“Our success is a testament to our hard work and dedication, and we will continue to invest in our property and our customers."

Despite the setbacks caused by the Covid pandemic and the losses suffered during the nationwide lockdowns, Gordon’s is having a successful start to the year and is hopeful 2022 will be a more normal trading year for the business.

Award-winning chef Garry is also a regular contributor to our food and drink section, The Kitchen Corner.
