Parishioners of Aberlemno, Guthrie and Rescobie Churches gathered on Friday to bid farewell and a well-earned retirement to Rev Brian Ramsay who has stepped down after 38 years as minister.

A packed Guthrie Hall was the venue for Mr Ramsay’s retirement party, where he was presented with various gifts, while everyone enjoyed drinks and canapés from local caterer Alison Beattie.

Session clerks Arthur Smith and Ian Wilson gave moving tributes, after which Aberlemno treasurer Lorna Hooghiemstra presented him with a substantial cheque, which was the result of many donations from grateful parishioners and friends.

An emotional Lorna handed Brian “a very big cheque which has a very big amount given to a man with a very big heart”, to thunderous applause.

Mr Ramsay thanked everyone and said he regarded all as friends and not just members of the congregation.

He also thanked his wife Christine for her support throughout the years and slightly embarrassed her by reminiscing how they first met at a disco.

The couple will now have more time to spend with their two daughters and their husbands and five grandchildren.
