Angus pays tribute to late monarch

Angus MP Dave Doogan said: “The death of Queen Elizabeth will be a source of great sadness to her family and to many people in Angus. My sincere condolences to all mourning her passing on this sad day. May she rest in peace.”

Angus South MSP Graeme Dey said the passing of the Queen is a moment in history and should be respected as such.

He added: “Whatever your views on the monarchy, it is surely impossible not to acknowledge and appreciate her dedication to the role she fulfilled over many decades.

“And on a human level, my thoughts are with her loved ones as they mourn their loss.”

Regional Conservative MSP Tess White said: “Her Majesty the Queen was the most extraordinary woman, an inspiration to us all in her commitment to public service and her country.

“Thank you, Ma’am. God Save the Queen. Long Live the King.”

Lord Provost Bill Campbell, Lord Lieutenant of Dundee, has led civic tributes.

He said: “The nation is truly saddened by the death of Her Majesty The Queen. She was always greeted by enthusiastic crowds during her visits to the city, including her last duty here when she officially opened our Waterfront green space at Slessor Gardens in 2016.

“Flags will fly at half-mast at Dundee City Council buildings as the city joins the nation at this time of mourning. I would also like to pass on the thoughts of Dundee to the Royal Family at this sad time.”

Angus Council has put in place arrangements in each burgh for the public to pay their respects by laying floral tributes.

These are: Arbroath - Arbroath Library, Brechin - Centre of St Ninians Square or Mechanics Institute, Carnoustie - Carnoustie War Memorial, Forfar - Outside Municipal Buildings (at front), Kirriemuir - The Square, around Peter Pan, Montrose - Outside the Town House, Monifieth - Monifieth War Memorial.
