Ewarts of Forfar and DH Robertson of Arbroath enjoyed success in the recent Scottish Craft Butcher Awards’ evaluation for Naked Steak and Gourmet Pastry products, which were judged at Forth Valley College in August.

The success came with gold awards for their Sirloin Steak while Ewarts also took Gold for their Savoury Chicken Parcels with Pepper Sauce and Silver for its Savoury Beef Wellingtons with Mushroom Sauce in the Gourmet pastry products.

DH Robertson also won a Silver award for its Caribbean Roll Gourmet pastry product.

The awards were accepted by Alan Kennedy and Steven Bennett respectively at the recent regional meeting in The Dewars Centre, Perth, held by the event organisers, Scottish Craft Butchers.

All together there were 60 entries in the Naked Steak category and there were 99 entries in the Gourmet Pastry category

Tom Courts, president of the Scottish Craft Butchers, said that local craft butchers are once again showing that they really are the go-to choice for consumers who expect something special.

He said: “We run these evaluations not just to award excellence but to underline the diverse product range that Scottish Craft Butchers offer.

"Local butchers are the specialist in our field and with customers becoming more adventurous with their tastes they are always seeking out the assurance of provenance that shopping at a specialist provides.”
