Thousands sign up for annual Spring Clean

The annual campaign has attracted almost 15,000 across 246 events, with 73 schools registered with events happening in all 32 local authority areas.

However, the charity want that number to be even bigger and are encouraging more people to get involved.

Spring Clean is the perfect opportunity to make a difference and the charity is calling on communities, schools, businesses and other organisations to play their part.

The Scottish Litter Survey, which was published in December, highlighted that litter remains a significant issue of public concern, with 67% believing that litter is a problem in their local areas, while 87% that it is an issue across Scotland.

Barry Fisher, CEO of Keep Scotland Beautiful, said: “We’ve already seen a fantastic number of people commit to our Spring Clean but we know that many more communities could join us. there are many more people litter picking who haven’t yet signed up.

“The litter issue across Scotland is as bad as it has ever been and the best way to tackle the problem is for more people to work together, and for us to collectively show the ground swell of support for more strategic action to turn the tide on litter.

“Spring Clean is a wonderful opportunity for everyone to make an impact. Every action, however small, makes a difference. We would love as many people as possible to take part and help us achieve our vision of a clean, green and sustainable Scotland.”

In Arbroath, next event will take place on Saturday, April 1 between 8am until 5pm as part of the Big Angus Beach Clean.

Anyone wishing to take part is welcome to drop by at the West Links park and beach area. All equipment and PPE will be supplied and refreshments will be provided. Participants should wear sensible clothing and sturdy footwear.
