Kirriemuir's Dream Festival back with fun-packed programme

The colour run was a definite highlight of 2019’s festival – a change of clothes is recommended.

After a two-year absence, Dream Festival is back and will be held on the hill on Saturday, June 11.

The event was first held in 2019, organised by Kate Munro, and it helped to start local group Sustainable Kirriemuir which is behind its organisation this year.

It was a huge success, with more than 100 people enjoying a range of unique, fun and free activities but, as with so many other event, plans to repeat the festival were stopped in their tracks by the pandemic.

Organisers that this year’s is bigger and better than berore, with and even broader range of activities on offer.

Businesses groups and clubs from across the local and wider area are being represented with some running activities, including the Kirriemuir Community Fire Station, Angus Cycle Hub, Forfar Loch Rangers, Murton Farm, DD8 Music, Kirriemuir Camera Obscura, Strathmore Rugby Club and Kirriemuir Guides.

Running from 11am until 3pm, day aims to encourage young people and families to have fun outdoors, connect with nature and enjoy time together.

The emphasis is on experiences over ‘things’ and being aware of what’s available in Angus for entertainment during the summer.

It also carries an environmental message, as staying local allows for a lower impact on the environment and smaller carbon footprint.

All activities will be carried out as sustainably as possible and will hopefully encourage a shift in habit and lifestyle and, while free, Sustainable Kirriemuir hopes donations will help to support its work.

Kate Munro, chairperson, said: "So often we substitute people with things. In the end stuff is just stuff. It is our connection with people and place that makes life meaningful.

"So, the more we share and connect, the more we belong. Dream festival came out of that simple idea.

"The hill is a spectacular place to bring people together for an afternoon. We try and keep it simple, sustainable, local and most of all, fun."
