Arbroath lifeboats respond to cliff emergency

The vessels were called out to the Needle’s E’e area at around 12.50pm at the request of the Coastguard.
Members of the inshore lifeboat crew went ashore to give casualty care before preparing the injured climber for evacuation.

Hide AdDue to the location and sea conditions, it was decided that extraction by Coastguard helicopter would be the safest method of extraction.
The casualty was winched aboard Rescue 151 which had been scrambled from Inverness before he was transferred to an ambulance and taken to Ninewells Hospital for further treatment.
Arbroath coxswain Michael Marr, said “The location of the casualty and sea conditions provided a bit of a challenge to our crew today, however with the assistance of our HM Coastguard colleagues we were able to ensure a positive outcome was achieved.”
