When I think of cocktails, I tend to imagine them being drunk by beautiful people in swanky nightclubs in glitzy places like New York or Paris.
Sometimes the thought of a zingy Margarita or a frothy Daiquiri can transport me to exotic beach locations in far flung corners of the globe. Rarely do I envisage myself sipping a fancy cocktail in my living room watching the telly on a Friday night.
In addition to the vast choice of wines from all over the world that are available on our supermarket shelves, there now seems to be a growing selection of cocktails to add to our trollies during the weekly shop. And you don’t even need to be a mixologist either. Many of the exotic concoctions that we see on cocktail menus in bars and restaurants now come pre-mixed and ready to serve. It seems someone has gone to the trouble of shaking and stirring for us.
I’m not usually a fan of spirits or sweet drinks but one or two have caught my eye recently and I have to say, they do make a refreshing change – especially on sunny days.
