Arlene Millar founded Henry & Co, a range of organic grooming products for dogs, in 2017, but, due to its popularity, left her career as a veterinary nurse at Abbey Veterinary Clinics two years later.

This led to her opening her own dog spa and boutique under the same name, inspired by Henry, her own cockapoo, which caters for all breeds of dogs.

As well as running the spa, Arlene teaches dog grooming part-time at Dundee & Angus College, which she has done for the last 12 years, and is also a qualified pet first aid instructor.

In just five years Henry & Co has garnered awards for its organic range of products including two sliver PetQuip Awards as well as being named PetQuip Best Organic Dog Boutique and Best Angus Dog Groomer in 2019.

The business was also named at the Scottish Pet Industry Awards 2021 and 2022 for Best Advertising and at the Lux Magazine Awards 2021 and 2022 for Best Organic Dog Spa.

Now Arlene has made it to the list of finalists for this year’s Best Businesswoman Awards in the Animal Services category.

She said: “I'm very proud of our success and team efforts with my staff who also add to our success with their hard work, good work ethics and care for our dog clients.

"They are a great team, we all work hard so we are looking forward to going to London to celebrate these finals, making a weekend of it.

"Either way is a win for us even getting this far to be in the finals as the entries were all fantastic businesses. To go to London is very exciting and that a small business like ours has grown so much to be recognised.

“Anyone wanting to bring their dreams to reality should go for it.”

The awards are designed to recognise the achievement of female entrepreneurs from a wide range of industries, all of whom are excelling in their chosen fields.

The judging panel was impressed by the creativity, tenacity and excellent business acumen demonstrated in the selected finalists who will go forward to the final at the Hilton Wembley in London on September 30.
