Forfar youth theatre group to premiere original musical

A group of Forfar young people will premiere their own new and original musical next week.

Spotlights Community Youth Theatre will stage ‘Historic Hysteria’, a production created entirely by members aged 11-18, at Studio 32 on the town’s East High Street.

Supported by National Lottery Awards for All Scotland and the Forfar Common Good Fund, the production features an original score written by young songwriter Brandon Marnie and arranged by musical director Colin Grant.

The story follows Sophie, a young person swept into a journey through time, taking audiences from the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 to the age of dinosaurs, the Roman Empire, the Dark Ages and beyond.

A defining feature of ‘Historic Hysteria’ is its emphasis on youth leadership. From scriptwriting and choreography to props, costume design, lighting and sound, young people have played a leading role in shaping and delivering the production, supported by experienced volunteers.

Performances will take place from May 28-30 May. The production offers audiences an entertaining and imaginative journey through history while showcasing the skills and enthusiasm of Spotlights’ young performers and theatre-makers.

Tickets are available from www.spotlights-forfar.org.uk and www.ticketsource.com/spotlights-forfar.
